Open Production setup and enter your production name, scenes, characters, actors and number of mics.
Assign each character to an actor. Actors can play more than one character.
Open Mic plot and choose the character wearing each mic in each scene.
Use the arrow button to fill an allocation into following blank scenes, stopping at the next assignment. Select Mic table to record an explicit return to or collection from the table.
Use the Character plot and Actor plot to review the show from different perspectives. Conflicting allocations are highlighted in red.
Open Backstage swaps to review the detected changes.
Check their timing against your actual production. StageMic works from the allocations you enter; it cannot know whether there is enough time backstage to make a particular change.
Use Save to create a .mic show file. StageMic also autosaves your current work on the controlling computer.
Keep a separate saved backup, particularly before updating the app or testing a different show.
New and Load ask whether you want to save the current show before replacing it.
Connect the controlling computer and your display devices to a network that allows them to communicate.
In Network setup, choose the display interface and port. Displays listen on all interfaces by default.
Each display link has:
Open, to preview it in the computer’s default browser.
QR code, to open a code that a phone or tablet can scan.
A link you can copy into another device’s browser.
Wi-Fi and Ethernet can both be used. Networks with client isolation will prevent devices from connecting.
Crew requires a password and can mark handovers complete or undo them. Set the password using Change crew password beneath the Crew link.
Complete-only does not require a password. It can mark handovers complete, but cannot undo them.
Crew browsers remember their login. Changing the password signs existing Crew sessions out.
Use a trusted backstage network: anyone who can reach the Complete-only display can mark its current-scene handovers complete.
Display links remain the same across app restarts while the computer’s IP address and display port remain the same.
We recommend using a static IP address, but if it changes, use the updated links in Network setup.
StageMic can receive OSC from QLab or another compatible application.
The default receiver is:
Address: 127.0.0.1
UDP port: 9000
This default is for show-control software running on the same computer as StageMic.
Send this OSC address with no arguments to advance one scene:
/stagemic/scene/go/next
For a specific scene, select it in StageMic and copy its individual OSC message from Network setup.
Individual scene messages use stable identifiers, so they continue to select the same scene after renaming or reordering. Use them at reference points to resynchronise your show.
If the OSC sender runs on another computer, select a reachable OSC interface in StageMic and send to that computer’s network address.
On a backstage display, mark a handover complete when the change has happened. Its tile turns green, and the control app and other displays update.
Crew displays provide a brief Undo option. Afterwards, hold the completed handover’s button to mark it incomplete.
You can also correct individual handovers in Backstage swaps on the control computer.
Before the next performance, use Reset all completions. Moving between scenes does not reset the ticks.
If your crew use completion tracking, enable "Alert me about handovers not marked complete" in Production setup.
When StageMic moves forward one scene, it checks the scene being left. If handovers remain unticked, it sends a silent computer notification and shows a warning in the editor.
Jumps, backward moves, repeated scenes and initial scene selection do not trigger alerts. Scene control continues immediately.
A warning means a handover was not marked complete; the physical change may still have happened. Notification permissions and Focus settings can affect whether the OS notification appears.
Open Print and choose the report you need.
Choose Actors lets you search for actors and print one page for each selected person. Select all and Deselect all apply to the whole actor list, including names hidden by a search.
The Actor plot and Character plot also offer Export CSV and Copy table for sharing allocations.
